Health Benefits of Coconut Water

Coconut is a tropical fruit of the Cocos nucifera (Coconut Tree). It is highly nutritious and rich in potassium. Coconut water has no artificial sugars, fat, or cholesterol. It has only a few calories and is full of electrolytes to help keep your body healthy.

Coconut water can help keep you hydrated throughout the day. I’ll like to call it “nature’s sports drink.” In Countries like Ghana, Jamaica, and other similar countries, getting coconut to purchase isn’t rocket science.

3 Health Benefits of Coconut Water

Coconut water drinkers prefer to avoid sugary alternatives and get themselves hydrated and healthy with natural flavors and oils through coconut water. But is it truly a gift of health from nature, or just a myth? Below are three (3) Benefits and advantages of consuming coconut water:

  1. Provides potassium.

One of the great selling points of coconut water is that it is high in potassium. This claim is true, and even the most skeptical of health experts give coconut water the praise it deserves for the amount of potassium you get in a single sip. An average serving contains around 569 mg of potassium, which is twice what you would find in a single banana.

The potassium will help regulate your blood pressure, and it also counters the amount of sodium you may have in your system. The health benefits you get from all this potassium include stroke prevention and a reduced likeliness of heart disease.

If you’re not eating enough fruits and vegetables on a daily basis to get your recommended potassium intake, this drink might make a good addition to your regular diet. The potassium is also good for combating a hangover, so the next time you wake up groggy after a night of partying, consider a glass of coconut water.

  1. Prevents hypertension.

The scientific jury is still out on whether coconut water is effective in lowering your blood pressure. As we have already stated, the potassium does a good job of regulating the problems that sodium can cause to your blood pressure. However, whether it can lower it for the long term remains to be seen or heard.

Many people who promote natural healing, homeopathic remedies and paths to health that do not include powerful medications believe that coconut milk can have a positive effect on your blood pressure. They point to a West Indian Medical Journal study that showed people who drank coconut water regularly showed a measurable decrease in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure rates.

Additional vitamins and minerals found in this water that might contribute to healthy blood pressure are magnesium and vitamin C.

  1. Combats diabetes.

This claim is embraced by people who love coconut water and think it can help people lose weight and regulate their glucose levels, thus reducing the chance of diabetes. This has yet to be proven, however. The best way to reduce the risk of diabetes is to regulate your diet and incorporate many healthy changes, such as eating more fruits and vegetables and fewer fats and sugars.

Replacing sugary drinks such as soda with coconut water might have a positive impact on your blood sugar level, your weight, and your overall health.
